The Power Grid/Wildfire Nexus: Using GIS and Satellite Remote Sensing to Identify Vulnerabilities

چکیده

The effects of wildfire on the power grid are a recurring concern for utility companies who need reliable information about where to prioritize infrastructure hardening. Though there existing data layers that provide measures burn probability, these models predominately consider long-term climate variables, which not helpful when analyzing current season trends. Utility temporally and locally relevant. To determine primary drivers probability relative vulnerability, this study assessed potential both readily accessible regularly updated. Two areas in Idaho, USA with contrasting probabilities were compared. Wildfire obtained differentiated between across 2018–2021 growing seasons. This determined mean wind speed, cumulative precipitation, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) an area interest may be indicators relevant scale. assessment demonstrates method variables utilized by municipal electric utilities, cooperatives, other utilities harden within wildfire-prone areas.

A new aerosol retrieval algorithm is presented which computes the spectral opti-cal depth over the ocean from spaceborne radiometers. It includes both multiplescattering and the bi-directional re ectance of the ocean surface. The algorithmis applied to data from the Along Track Scanning Radiometer 2 (ATSR-2).This radiometer aboard the ERS-2 satellite has 4 bands in the visible a...

Estimating Ecosystem Respiration Using Satellite Remote Sensing

SUMMARY Here we report a method for estimating ecosystem respiration (R e) by exclusive use of remotely sensed land surface temperature (T r) from NASA's moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensors. A combination of daytime and nighttime MODIS T r data was used to model an 8-day mean value of land surface temperature (T r(mean)), which was then used in a modified Arrhenius-bas...

Droughts & Floods Assessment and Monitoring Using Remote Sensing and Gis

Space technology has made substantial contribution in all the three phases such as preparedness, prevention and relief phases of drought and flood disaster management. The Earth Observation satellites which include both geostationary and polar orbiting satellites provide comprehensive, synoptic and multi temporal coverage of large areas in real time and at frequent intervals and ‘thus’ have bec...
